When Sexual Sin and Identity Issues Confuse Society

We are living in a time of deep confusion. Sexual boundaries are blurred. Identity has become whatever a person claims it to be. What once was clear and sacred has been redefined and debated. Even in the church, many are unsure how to respond. Do we stay silent? Do we lash out? Do we compromise to avoid offense?

What would Jesus do in this culture? He already gave us the answer through His actions.

In John 4, Jesus met a woman at a well. She wasn’t living right. She had five past husbands and was living with a man who wasn’t her husband. Sexual sin was part of her story. She knew it. The whole town knew it. But Jesus didn’t avoid her. He didn’t shame her in front of others.

Instead, He spoke to her personally and directly. He said in John 4:16-18, “Go, call your husband and come back.” She replied that she had no husband, and Jesus revealed He knew the truth — yet without harshness or insult.

He called out the sin, but He did it in love. He didn’t affirm her lifestyle, but He also didn’t condemn her to hopelessness. He pointed her to living water — Himself — that could satisfy her in a way no relationship or sexual experience ever could.

So what would Jesus do when sexual sin and identity issues confuse society?

He would not ignore sin or pretend it’s acceptable.
He would not hurl insults or push people away.
He would speak the truth — clearly and lovingly.

He would call people to repentance.
He would offer hope beyond their brokenness.
He would invite them to find their true identity in Him.

How should we follow Him today?

Stand firm on God’s design for sexuality and identity without apology. Speak truth, but don’t use truth as a weapon. Reach out with compassion to those caught in confusion and sin. Offer the same grace Jesus offered — grace that leads to repentance, not affirmation of what is wrong.

The goal is not to win debates. The goal is to win hearts.

Jesus never compromised truth to be accepted. He also never used truth to destroy people. What would Jesus do today? He would speak truth in love and call the lost — no matter how far they’ve gone — to come home.
