  • Joseph, son of Jacob and Rachel, was deeply loved by his father but hated by his brothers (Genesis 37:3-4).
  • Betrayed and sold for twenty shekels of silver (Genesis 37:28).
  • Falsely accused by Potiphar’s wife and imprisoned, but remained faithful (Genesis 39:20-23).
  • Interpreted dreams in prison, but was forgotten by the cupbearer (Genesis 40:23).
  • Later interpreted Pharaoh’s dreams and was exalted to second-in-command over Egypt (Genesis 41:41).
  • Provided food during famine, saving many lives, including his own family.
  • Forgave his brothers and recognized God’s greater plan (Genesis 50:20).

2. How Joseph Points to Jesus

  • Loved by the Father, rejected by his own (Genesis 37:3-4; John 1:11).
  • Betrayed for silver (Genesis 37:28; Matthew 26:14-15).
  • Falsely accused yet silent and faithful (Genesis 39:20; Isaiah 53:7).
  • Exalted after suffering to save others (Genesis 41:41; Philippians 2:8-9).
