Matthew 24:37–39

Introduction: Living on Borrowed Time

  • If Noah walked into our world today, he’d recognize the same sinful heartbeat.
  • Jesus said, “As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.”
  • This is prophecy unfolding—not history repeating.
  • The flood came suddenly; judgment will come suddenly again.
  • Question: Are we living like the masses—or like Noah, faithful and prepared?

I. The Corruption of Society

Genesis 6:5 says, “The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth.”

  • Noah’s world was filled with violence, immorality, and selfish ambition.
  • Today: shootings, sexual perversion normalized, families fractured, life devalued.
  • What they called progress was really regression.
  • Urgency: We can’t call it “culture” when God calls it “corruption.”

II. The Deafness to Warning

2 Peter 2:5 says, “Noah was a preacher of righteousness.”

  • For 120 years he built the ark and preached—no one listened.
  • Today, pulpits warn and Scripture cries out, but the world scrolls and mocks.
  • Noah was ridiculed; Christians are ridiculed now.
  • Urgency: Ignoring God’s voice only makes judgment inevitable.

III. The Normalcy of Life Amid Sin

Matthew 24:38 says, “In those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage.”

  • People weren’t watching, weren’t expecting—life felt too comfortable.
  • Today: distracted by entertainment, schedules, politics, and comfort.
  • People assume tomorrow will always come.
  • Urgency: Tomorrow is not promised. The flood came during dinner plans.

IV. The Few Who Were Faithful

Genesis 6:8 says, “But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord.”

  • Out of the world, one man and his family stood out.
  • God preserves the faithful remnant—not the majority.
  • Today: faithfulness makes you look strange, like Noah building a boat in the desert.
  • Urgency: Popular doesn’t mean right. The majority drowned.

V. The Ark of Salvation

Genesis 7:16 says, “And the Lord shut him in.”

  • The ark was God’s provision of grace before judgment.
  • One door—God closed it. Today, Jesus said, “I am the door.”
  • Once God closed the ark, it was too late.
  • Urgency: Get inside the Ark of Christ now—before the rain starts falling.

VI. The Final Correlation—Judgment is Certain

Genesis 7:19 says, “And the waters prevailed so mightily on the earth that all the high mountains under the whole heaven were covered.”

  • The flood was real and wiped away every false security.
  • Second Peter 3:6–7 says the next judgment will be fire.
  • The world laughed until the water reached their throats—today they scoff at Christ’s return.
  • Urgency: Delay is dangerous. Judgment is not if—it’s when.

Closing: The Cry of Urgency

  • Jesus said, “As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.”
  • Imagine the cries of people clinging to rooftops, too late for mercy.
  • Today, grace is extended through Christ—but it won’t be forever.
  • Call to action: Will you walk through the door now—or gamble that the rain won’t fall today?
  • Final challenge: What about your friends and family—are you warning them?
  • Urgency: The flood came. Judgment came. And Jesus said it will come again. Will you be in Christ—or outside?
