Remember. Obey. Live.
A Study Guide for Holding On to God in Every Season
1. Introduction: Moses’ Farewell Sermon
Deuteronomy means “second law,” not because God changed it—but because Moses restates it for a new generation.
Israel is on the edge of the Promised Land, and Moses knows he will not go with them.
This book is a call to remember what God has done and remain faithful to His commands.
Reflection: We are always one generation away from forgetting the faithfulness of God.
2. A Look Back: Lessons from the Wilderness
Moses recounts their journey from Egypt, through the wilderness, to the Jordan River (Chapters 1–3).
He reminds them of their rebellion, God’s provision, and how leadership was established.
Takeaway: Before you step into the future, don’t forget what God has brought you through.
3. The Heart of the Covenant
The Ten Commandments are repeated (Deuteronomy 5), and the greatest commandment is given:
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and strength” (6:5).Parents are called to teach God’s commands diligently to their children (6:6–9).
Lesson: Faith isn’t just about rules—it’s about loving God deeply and living that love out loud.
4. Obedience and Blessing
Moses emphasizes that obedience brings life, blessing, and success (Chapters 7–11).
God’s commands are not burdens—they are the path to thriving.
They are told not to forget God when things go well.
Warning: Prosperity is just as dangerous as persecution—because comfort breeds forgetfulness.
5. Laws for a Holy People
Chapters 12–26 cover laws for worship, justice, leadership, relationships, and generosity.
These laws are given to set Israel apart from surrounding nations and reflect God’s holiness.
Truth: God’s people are called to live differently—not just spiritually, but ethically and publicly.
6. Choose Life or Death
Moses presents a choice: life and blessing through obedience, or death and curse through rebellion (Chapters 27–30).
He says plainly, “I have set before you life and death… choose life” (30:19).
God desires wholehearted love and faithful living—not perfection, but relationship.
Challenge: Every day you choose who you will serve. Choose the One who chose you first.
7. Moses’ Final Words and Death
Moses blesses each tribe and passes leadership to Joshua (Chapters 31–34).
He views the Promised Land from a distance, then dies at 120 years old.
His legacy is one of faith, obedience, and intercession for God’s people.
Encouragement: You may not see the full result of your obedience—but you can trust that your faithfulness still matters.
