Whenever the word “magic” comes up, people often jump straight to thoughts of sorcery, witchcraft, or the occult — the very things Scripture condemns. Deuteronomy 18:10–12 makes it clear that practices like divination, fortune telling, sorcery, or consulting with the dead are an abomination to the Lord. Galatians 5:19–21 lists sorcery alongside idolatry and other works of the flesh that keep people from inheriting the kingdom of God. Revelation 21:8 even warns that sorcerers will have their part in the lake of fire. These passages show us exactly what God is speaking against: spiritual practices that seek supernatural power apart from Him.
But what Brenden Trojan is doing is not sorcery — it is illusion and entertainment. There is a big difference between sleight of hand tricks that create laughter and wonder, and spiritual practices that call on forbidden powers. The Bible condemns witchcraft, not card tricks. What Brenden does is simply a way of showing how easily our eyes can be amazed, with no spirits, spells, or supernatural claims attached. In fact, Brenden shares his faith publicly as a Christian, and his program reflects that light rather than anything dark.
That leads to the bigger purpose. This isn’t about replacing the Gospel. It’s about creating a family-friendly night where our community can gather together, laugh, enjoy themselves, and maybe even step into the doors of a church for the very first time. It is outreach, it is encouragement, and it is a chance to show people that the Church is not afraid of creativity or joy.
And that matters, because God Himself created joy, laughter, and creativity. Ecclesiastes 3:4 says there is a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance. Jesus told us in Matthew 5:16 to let our light shine before others so they may see our good works and glorify God. Philippians 4:8 calls us to think on whatever is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and admirable. This show doesn’t point to dark things. It points to wonder, joy, and light — and that aligns perfectly with the spirit of Scripture.
The evening will not only include Brenden’s performance, but also a short message from me titled “The Real Power Beyond the Illusion.” Because while illusions may amaze for a moment, the true supernatural power belongs to God alone — the power to create, to heal, to save, and to transform.
The real issue often isn’t the event itself, but legalism. Being overly critical of something harmless misses the point of grace and freedom in Christ. We are not violating Scripture by hosting an event that brings families together and creates an open door for the Gospel. If anything, nitpicking at a harmless outreach is closer to the legalism that Jesus rebuked than to the joy and freedom He invites us into.
And if someone continues to press, the truth is simple: this is not witchcraft or occult practice. It is family entertainment and an opportunity to shine the Light of Christ in our community. If we are going to talk about real spiritual dangers, then let’s not ignore the ones Scripture consistently warns against: gossip, division, pride, and judgmental attitudes. Those are the things that tear down the Body of Christ. Hosting an evening of joy and wonder is not a danger — it is a witness.
So we warmly invite you to join us for this special event — an evening of fellowship, fun, and family, all while supporting the ministry and the work God is doing through Northern Light Church. Come ready to laugh, to be amazed, and most importantly, to encounter the truth that there is a real power beyond the illusion.
