When culture politicizes what God created, preaching the Bible will sound controversial — but it is not partisan. It is theological and spiritual.

I. INTRODUCTION — WHY THIS MATTERS

Acknowledge the tension openly

  • There is growing pressure to avoid topics like marriage, gender, life, and family.
  • These subjects are labeled “political.”
  • Christians are increasingly accused of being judgmental or politically incorrect.

Core Question

If something is established in Genesis before there was government, how can it be political?

Anchor Text

  • Genesis 1:1 — “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.”

Point
Before government, there was God.
Before policy, there was creation.
These issues are theological first, cultural second.

II. AUTHORITY — WHO DEFINES REALITY?

Text
Genesis 1:1

Truth
God speaks and reality responds.

  • Creation begins with divine authority.
  • Repeated phrase: “And God said… and it was so.”

Application
Conflict happens when culture attempts to redefine what God has already defined.

The tension is not because the church entered politics.
It is because society left theology.

III. GENDER — CREATED, NOT CONSTRUCTED

Text
Genesis 1:27
“So God created man in His own image… male and female He created them.”

Observations

  1. Gender is created by God.
  2. Gender is tied to the image of God.

This is not sociology.
This is theology.

Supporting Thought

  • Jesus affirms this in Matthew 19:4.

Pastoral Clarity

  • Every person is an image bearer.
  • Compassion does not require agreement with error.

Strong Line
If Genesis 1:27 is controversial, it is not because the church became political — it is because culture rejected the Creator.

IV. MARRIAGE — DEFINED BEFORE GOVERNMENT

Text
Genesis 2:24
“A man shall leave… be joined to his wife… one flesh.”

Marriage Predates

  • Government
  • Courts
  • Licensing
  • Political institutions

Supporting Text
Matthew 19:4–6 — Jesus goes back to Genesis.

Truth
The state did not invent marriage. God did.

Application
The church is not redefining marriage.
Culture is.

V. LIFE — CHILDREN ARE BLESSING, NOT BURDEN

Text
Genesis 1:28 — “Be fruitful and multiply.”

Children are blessing and design — not inconvenience.

Supporting Texts

  • Jeremiah 1:5 — “Before I formed you… I knew you.”
  • Psalm 139:13–16 — “You knitted me together…”
  • Luke 1:41 — The baby leaped in the womb.
  • Exodus 20:13 — “You shall not murder.”
  • Proverbs 6:17 — “Hands that shed innocent blood.”

Truth
Life in the womb is personal, known, formed by God.

Clarity
Abortion is not merely medical.
It is the intentional ending of human life.

Pastoral Balance

  • Forgiveness is real.
  • Grace is real.
  • But redefining sin is not mercy.

VI. CHILDREN — GIVEN, NOT OWNED

Texts

  • Psalm 127:3 — “Children are a heritage from the Lord.”
  • Deuteronomy 6:6–7 — Teach them diligently.
  • Ephesians 6:4 — Bring them up in the Lord.

Truth
Children are entrusted by God to families.

Application
When Christian parents grow passive, other voices disciple their children.

This is not hostility toward educators.
It is clarity about spiritual responsibility.

VII. WHY IT FEELS POLITICAL

Reasons

  • Culture legislates morality.
  • Governments redefine what God defined.
  • Media frames moral conviction as partisanship.

But
Morality has always shaped society.

Text
Exodus 20 — Ten Commandments
Murder, theft, false witness, coveting.

Those affect society — but they are divine standards, not campaign slogans.

Text
Romans 1:25 — Exchanging truth for a lie.

Every society enforces someone’s morality.
The question is whose.

VIII. THE WARNING — TWO DANGERS

Danger 1: Silence

Avoiding truth to avoid discomfort.

  • 2 Timothy 4:2 — Preach the Word in season and out.

Danger 2: Rage

Cultural anger instead of biblical authority.

  • Ephesians 4:15 — Speak the truth in love.
  • James 1:20 — Man’s anger does not produce God’s righteousness.

Balance
We will not be silent.
We will not be hateful.

Faithfulness is the goal — not argument wins.

IX. FINAL CLARITY

If preaching Genesis sounds political, so be it.

But we are not preaching a party.
We are preaching a Person.

That Person:

  • Created male and female.
  • Defined marriage.
  • Forms life in the womb.
  • Entrusts children to families.

Texts

  • Psalm 24:1 — The earth is the Lord’s.
  • 1 Corinthians 6:19–20 — You are not your own.
  • Isaiah 55:8–9 — His ways higher than ours.

This is God’s world.
God’s creation.
God’s design.

We do not move the line.

X. CLOSING ANCHOR

Colossians 2:8
“See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception… rather than according to Christ.”

Captivity comes through ideas.
The church must remain anchored.

Final Statement
The church does not move the line.
The Word of God is the line.

If culture shifts, we stand.
If opinions change, we stand.
If pressure increases, we stand.

Because truth does not belong to us.

It belongs to Him.
