A little over a year ago, my wife and I walked into Northern Light Church on a Sunday morning. There were four people sitting in the pews, plus the pastor’s family. On the surface, it didn’t look like the church was going to survive. But that morning, I felt a deep pull in my spirit—something I couldn’t explain—telling me, “This is where you’re supposed to be.”
The truth is, I was already comfortable where I had been attending. I wasn’t searching for a new place. But that day, God stirred something in me. At first, I thought maybe it had to do with my background in marketing and promotion. I figured I could help with outreach, get the word out, maybe see the church grow a little. But looking back now, I realize God had a much bigger plan.
The last thing I ever expected—as a man with no formal theological education—was to be leading a church a year later. But that’s exactly how God works. He doesn’t wait until we feel qualified. He calls, and then He equips. When He asked me to step forward, I didn’t run with confidence—I stepped reluctantly, full of hesitation and questions. But I said yes. And through that yes, He is showing me things I never imagined.
Over this past year, I’ve learned again and again that the church is not just Northern Light—it is His people. And God has surrounded me with those people. He has brought faithful men and women into my life to teach, to encourage, and to worship side by side.
Today was such a powerful example of that. The Lion’s Den MBTC joined us for a special service, and it was a reminder of what the church is truly meant to be—not separated by buildings or names, but united by the Spirit of God. We came together as one body, worshiping and encouraging one another. Joshua Price brought a strong and heartfelt message, our praise team joined with theirs, and with Robert Rogers stepping out on the drums, the roof was raised in praise.
Coming right off an amazing turnout for VBS this past week, we were blessed with nearly 100 people filling the church today—a number that would have seemed impossible just a year ago. But God is moving. God is building. And He is opening our eyes to His plan and His power.
I remain deeply humbled that the people of Northern Light Church entrusted me with this role. It’s not about my ability—it’s about God’s calling. And this opportunity isn’t just allowing me to lead—it’s allowing me to grow. I’ve learned that obedience, even when uncertain, always brings blessing.
God has placed me here while also allowing me to continue running Scotteez Apparel & More with the help of my family, and I’m thankful for the way He’s using both paths to impact lives.
So if you see growth here, don’t give me the credit. I don’t deserve it. All glory belongs to God. He called. I answered. And through it, He is writing a story that only He could write. To my church family at Northern Light Church—you are a blessing, and God is using you right here in little ol’ St. Helen to bring this community together for His glory.
