It’s a fair question.
If your family doesn’t attend church regularly—or at all—you might wonder why a church program like Vacation Bible School (VBS) would be worth your time.
But here’s the honest truth: VBS isn’t just for church kids. It’s for your kids.
What is VBS?
VBS stands for Vacation Bible School, but don’t let the word “school” scare you off. It’s not about desks and tests. It’s about fun, friends, and faith—all wrapped into a few action-packed days.
Think:
- Games that get kids moving and laughing
- Music that’s loud, joyful, and full of meaning
- Crafts and hands-on activities
- Skits and stories that teach simple, life-changing truths
- Encouraging adult leaders who genuinely care about your child
It’s designed to be one of the most memorable parts of a kid’s summer. And for many, it is.
But We’re Not Religious…
That’s okay. VBS isn’t just for church families or people who have it all together.
You don’t need to know Bible verses, have a church routine, or even call yourself religious to be welcome.
A lot of parents who send their kids to VBS are simply looking for something good, fun, and meaningful—and that’s exactly what this is.
We’re not here to quiz you on what you believe. We’re not looking to sign you up for anything.
We’re just here to love your kids, speak truth into their lives, and give them a place to belong.
We just invite.
What Will My Child Get Out of It?
Even if faith isn’t your thing, here’s what your child will walk away with:
- Friendships – with peers and leaders who genuinely care
- Confidence – from trying new things and being encouraged
- Kindness & respect – modeled in every interaction
- Positive values – like honesty, forgiveness, and compassion
- Hope – messages that tell them they are loved, created with purpose, and never alone
And let’s be honest: a few hours each day where your kids are safe, active, and screen-free? That’s a win, too.
Is There a Catch?
Nope. Most VBS programs are completely free.
There’s no pressure to join the church or commit to anything long-term. No one is going to show up uninvited at your door. Your kid doesn’t need special clothes, Bible knowledge, or a church background to fit in.
You don’t even have to believe in God for your child to feel welcome here.
Why Churches Do This
Churches run VBS because we care about kids and families. We believe the message of God’s love and truth is worth sharing—and we want to do it in a way that’s fun, encouraging, and real.
So if you’re asking, “Why would I send my kid to something like that?”
Maybe the better question is:
Why not give them the chance to hear something good, make new friends, and be surrounded by people who want to build them up?
Your child doesn’t need a church background to benefit from VBS.
They just need a few summer afternoons—and a parent willing to say yes.
We hope you will.
