Main Text: Acts 9:1–22
Key Focus: The grace that saved Paul didn’t just change his destiny—it changed his identity, his priorities, and his purpose.

I. “Amazing grace! how sweet the sound…”

Scripture: Acts 7:58–9:18, 1 Timothy 1:12–16, Philippians 3:3–9

  • Paul was a wretch—and he knew it.
  • Grace pursued him while he was lost.
  • He was blinded to everything but truth.
  • He was found—not by effort, but by mercy.

II. “’Twas grace that taught my heart to fear…”

Scripture: Acts 9:3–6, Proverbs 1:7, 2 Corinthians 5:11, Romans 11:20

  • Grace interrupted Paul’s confidence.
  • It taught him fear—not panic, but reverence.
  • Instead of wrath, he received a mission.

III. “Through many dangers, toils and snares…”

Scripture: 2 Corinthians 11:23–28, Acts 14:19–22, Philippians 1:29, 2 Corinthians 12:7–10

  • Grace didn’t remove hardship—it sustained Paul through it.
  • Suffering became confirmation of his calling.
  • Weakness became the channel of Christ’s power.

IV. “The Lord has promised good to me…”

Scripture: Philippians 3:7–14, Romans 8:31–39, 2 Corinthians 1:20

  • Paul’s hope wasn’t in blessings—it was in Christ.
  • He counted everything else as loss.
  • God’s promises were his anchor.

V. “Yes, when this flesh and heart shall fail…”

Scripture: 2 Timothy 4:6–8, Philippians 1:21–23, 2 Corinthians 5:1–8

  • Paul faced death with confidence, not fear.
  • His life was poured out—but not wasted.
  • He lived and died knowing the crown awaited.

VI. “But God who called me here below…”

Scripture: Colossians 3:2–4, Philippians 1:21, 2 Timothy 1:12, Romans 8:18

  • Paul knew this world was fading.
  • His eyes were fixed on what is eternal.
  • God would be forever his—and he lived like it.

Closing Challenge:

Can you sing Amazing Grace—and mean it?

  • Has grace transformed you?
  • Is Jesus your treasure—or just your backup plan?
  • If grace hasn’t changed your life—it may not be grace you’ve received.

·  Amazing grace! how sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found;
Was blind, but now I see.

·  ’Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
And grace my fears relieved;
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed.

·  Through many dangers, toils and snares
I have already come;
’Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far,
And grace will lead me home.

·  The Lord has promised good to me,
His word my hope secures;
He will my shield and portion be
As long as life endures.

·  Yes, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
And mortal life shall cease,
I shall possess, within the veil,
A life of joy and peace.

·  The earth shall soon dissolve like snow,
The sun forbear to shine;
But God, who called me here below,
Will be forever mine.
