One Year Later — And God Is Not Done Yet

Key Verse

Philippians 1:6
“And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.”

I. God Often Begins Calling Through Brokenness

My Story

  • Marriage separation
  • Counseling appointment
  • Pastor’s answer: “You need Jesus”
  • Anger turned into curiosity
  • First church service changed everything

Truth

God often uses pain to get our attention.

Romans 8:28

Question

What difficulty may God be using to redirect your life?

II. Calling Usually Starts With A Pull, Not A Plan

My Story

  • Jail ministry opportunity
  • Pull toward Northern Light
  • Airport Road decision
  • Four people in attendance

Truth

God rarely reveals the whole roadmap.

Psalm 119:105
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”

Not a spotlight.
A lamp.

Question

What has God been nudging you toward?

III. Calling Is Not Reserved For Pastors

Ephesians 2:10

We are God’s workmanship.

Key Point

Every believer has:

  • Gifts
  • Experiences
  • Opportunities
  • Purpose

Calling is not a position.

Calling is obedience.

Examples

  • Pastor
  • Teacher
  • Parent
  • Mentor
  • Prayer warrior
  • Volunteer
  • Witness

Question

Where has God positioned you to serve?

IV. God Calls The Unqualified

Moses

“I can’t speak.”

Jeremiah

“I’m too young.”

Gideon

“My family is the weakest.”

My Story

  • No seminary
  • No formal ministry training
  • Plenty of reasons to say no

Truth

1 Corinthians 1:27

God does not call the qualified.

God qualifies the called.

Question

What excuse are you giving God?

V. Calling Will Cost You Something

My Reality

  • Financial uncertainty
  • Doubt
  • Fear
  • Responsibility

Jesus’ Reality

Luke 9:23

Take up your cross daily.

Truth

Calling is not about comfort.

Calling is about obedience.

Question

What are you unwilling to surrender?

VI. Don’t Ignore The Pull

Jonah

Ran from God’s call.

David

Served God’s purpose in his generation.

Acts 13:36

Truth

Delayed obedience is still disobedience.

God is patient.

But He is persistent.

Question

What have you been putting off?

VII. Your Calling Is Bigger Than You

Abraham

Blessed to be a blessing.

1 Peter 4:10

Use your gifts to serve others.

Truth

Your calling reaches people you’ve never met.

Your obedience affects lives you cannot see.

Question

Who might God want to reach through you?

One Year Later

What has changed?

  • The church has grown
  • Ministries have formed
  • Lives have changed
  • God has proven Himself faithful

What Hasn’t Changed?

  • Still nervous
  • Still dependent on God
  • Still learning
  • Still called

Final Challenge

Don’t ignore your calling.

Take the next step.

Say yes.

Trust God with the outcome.

Final Promise

Philippians 1:6

“He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.”

God wasn’t done with me.

God isn’t done with Northern Light Church.

And God is not done with you yet.
