Looks the Same. Isn’t the Same.

Main Text: Galatians 5:16–25   |   Key Text: Galatians 5:22–23

Big Idea: The world may use the same words Scripture uses, but the Holy Spirit produces something deeper, different, and rooted in Christ.

I. The Fruit Has a Source

It’s the fruit of the Spirit, not human effort (Gal. 5:22–23).

II. Love

Seeks another’s true good, not just approval (1 Cor. 13:4–6; John 15:13; Eph. 4:15).

III. Joy

Rooted in God, not circumstances (Phil. 4:4; James 1:2–3; John 16:22).

IV. Peace

Begins with reconciliation to God, not the absence of conflict (Rom. 5:1; John 14:27; Phil. 4:6–7).

V. Patience

Long-suffering with difficult people, not just waiting calmly (Col. 3:12–13; James 1:19; 2 Pet. 3:9).

VI. Kindness

Actively seeks another’s good, not just pleasantness (Eph. 4:32; Luke 6:35; Rom. 2:4).

VII. Goodness

Defined by God, not by comparison (Mark 10:18; Rom. 3:10–12; Ps. 119:68).

VIII. Faithfulness

Proven when it costs something, not just when convenient (Luke 16:10; Rev. 2:10; 1 Cor. 4:2).

IX. Gentleness

Strength under control, not weakness (Matt. 11:29; Gal. 6:1; 2 Tim. 2:24–25).

X. Self-Control

Desires no longer rule us, not mere willpower (1 Cor. 6:12; Titus 2:11–12; Prov. 25:28).

XI. Fruit Is Evidence, Not Decoration

Evidence of salvation, not the root of it (Gal. 5:24–25).

XII. Personal Examination

Nine questions to sit with, one per fruit.

Closing Challenge

Compare your life to Christ, not to the person next to you. Where is the Spirit producing growth—and where am I still resisting Him?
