2 Corinthians 5:10

Big Idea

Every believer will stand before Jesus Christ and give account—not for salvation, but for what they did with the life, time, gifts, and opportunities they were given.

I. You Will Stand Before Christ

2 Corinthians 5:10

  • Every believer will appear before the judgment seat of Christ
  • This is not about salvation
  • Salvation was settled at the cross
  • This is about stewardship and accountability

Key Thought:

Not:

“Are you saved?”

But:

“What did you do with what I gave you?”

Things God Has Given Us

  • Time
  • Gifts
  • Opportunities
  • Relationships
  • Influence
  • Resources

Important Truth

We are already answering that question by how we live right now.

II. Saved By Grace — But Your Life Still Matters

Ephesians 2:8–10

  • We are saved by grace through faith
  • Salvation cannot be earned
  • But believers are saved FOR good works

1 Corinthians 3:13–15

  • Some works remain
  • Some works burn up
  • The believer is still saved
  • But there can still be loss

Key Thought

Nothing done for Christ is wasted…
But not everything we do carries into eternity.

Ask Yourself

  • Am I building eternal things?
  • Or temporary things?

III. The Danger of Comfortable Christianity

James 4:17

  • The greatest danger is often not rebellion
  • It is inactivity
  • Quiet faith
  • Comfortable faith
  • A faith that never costs anything

James 4:17

Knowing the right thing and failing to do it is sin.

Difference:

Struggling

  • Fighting
  • Growing
  • Repenting
  • Trying again

Settling

  • Comfortable
  • Passive
  • Spiritually stagnant
  • No longer fighting

Key Thought

There’s a difference between struggling and settling.

IV. The Excuses We Hide Behind

Common Excuses

  • “I’m shy.”
  • “I don’t know enough.”
  • “I don’t want to offend anyone.”

Romans 1:16

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel…”

Important Truth

This is not about personality.
This is about faithfulness.

Key Thought

Silence feels safe…
But it doesn’t change anything.

V. God Sees — And People Matter

Hebrews 6:10

God sees faithful obedience.

Proverbs 24:11–12

God also sees what we avoid.

God Sees:

  • Conversations avoided
  • Nudges ignored
  • Opportunities missed
  • People we passed by

Important Truth

We don’t answer for what we didn’t have…
But we will answer for what we were given.

VI. What Actually Lasts

Matthew 6:19–20

Temporary Things

  • Money
  • Comfort
  • Recognition
  • Popularity
  • Possessions

Eternal Things

  • Faithfulness
  • Obedience
  • Serving others
  • Speaking truth
  • Pointing people to Christ

Key Thought

God is not measuring your platform…
He’s looking at your faithfulness.

VII. The Moment That Changes Everything

Matthew 25:21

“Well done, good and faithful servant.”

Jesus Will Not Ask:

  • Were you impressive?
  • Were you successful?
  • Were you popular?

Jesus Will Ask:

Were you faithful?

Important Truth

Everything chased in this life will feel small.
Everything done for Christ will stand.

Closing — Choose Now

Psalm 90:12

“Teach us to number our days…”

Questions

  • What has God been calling you toward?
  • Where have you been settling?
  • Who needs to hear the truth?
  • What are you doing with what He gave you?

Final Challenge

One day you are going to care about what you did with your life…

So don’t wait until then.

Choose now.
