SERMON OUTLINE
Wisdom Brings Blessing
Theme: Godly wisdom leads to peace and prosperity
Primary Scripture: 1 Kings 3:9
“Give your servant therefore an understanding mind to govern your people, that I may discern between good and evil…”
BIG IDEA (THREAD THROUGH THE ENTIRE READING)
Godly wisdom brings blessing —
but wisdom must be guarded, obeyed, and sustained.
First Kings shows us that wisdom can build a kingdom…
and neglect of wisdom can divide it.
1) GODLY WISDOM BEGINS WITH HUMILITY
(1 Kings 3)
- Solomon asks for wisdom, not wealth or power
- He recognizes his inability to lead without God
- God honors a humble request
- Wisdom is given as a gift, not earned
Key truth:
Wisdom begins when a person knows they need God.
2) GODLY WISDOM PRODUCES ORDER AND PEACE
(1 Kings 4–5)
- Solomon governs with discernment
- The nation experiences peace and stability
- Prosperity flows naturally from wise leadership
- God’s promise to David is visibly fulfilled
Key insight:
When wisdom rules, peace follows.
3) GODLY WISDOM BUILDS WHAT HONORS GOD
(1 Kings 6–7)
- The temple is built carefully and reverently
- God’s presence is central, not symbolic
- Excellence reflects honor toward God
- Wisdom expresses itself through obedience
Key truth:
Wisdom values God’s presence above personal legacy.
4) GOD BLESSES WISDOM — BUT WARNS AGAINST DRIFT
(1 Kings 8–9)
- Solomon dedicates the temple
- God responds with blessing and warning
- Obedience brings continued favor
- Disobedience threatens future loss
Key warning:
Blessing does not remove accountability.
5) WISDOM ATTRACTS ATTENTION — AND TEMPTATION
(1 Kings 10–11)
- Nations recognize Solomon’s wisdom
- Wealth and influence increase
- Solomon’s heart slowly turns away
- Wisdom is compromised by desire
Key insight:
Wisdom untended becomes vulnerability.
6) THE LOSS OF WISDOM LEADS TO DIVISION
(1 Kings 12–14)
- Rehoboam rejects wise counsel
- Pride replaces discernment
- The kingdom splits
- God’s people suffer the consequences
Key truth:
Ignoring wisdom fractures what God built.
7) GOD CONTINUES HIS WORK THROUGH THE FAITHFUL
(1 Kings 15–17)
- God preserves a faithful remnant
- Prophets speak truth despite resistance
- Elijah stands alone against corruption
- God’s purposes move forward
Key declaration:
God’s plan does not fail when leaders do.
CLOSING TRUTH
Wisdom brings blessing.
But wisdom must be lived, not just received.
Peace and prosperity flow from obedience —
not intelligence, influence, or success.
When God’s wisdom is honored,
His people flourish.
When it is ignored,
division and loss follow.
Wisdom brings blessing — when it is obeyed.
